History of shaving

Today, our three dimensional, super sharp blades and state-of-the art razors enable us to get a perfectly smooth shave. But it hasn’t always been like that!

In ancient times, men used sharpened stones for shaving. Another approach was to singe the hairs with a piece of burning wood.

Because the first steel knives were not as safe and hard as they are today, a special shaving technique was required. Thus a new profession was born: the barber. This professional gradually died out when special safety razors came onto the market. These were made of a stronger metal, enabling everyone to achieve a good, safe shave at home.

The first electric razor was developed in 1923 by the American Jakob Schick. Soon it was one of the most purchased household appliances.
